How Long Do Rechargeable Table Lamps Last?

A rechargeable table lamp lasts as long as its battery allows. Our two cordless lamps, Silex and Auren, give about 12 hours of light on a full charge and take about 6 hours to recharge. Over the years, any rechargeable battery slowly holds a little less charge, so a few habits help.

How long does a rechargeable table lamp last on one charge?

Two numbers decide it: the capacity of the battery and the power of the light source. Silex and Auren share the same pair, a 4,000 mAh battery and a 3 W LED. On a full charge, that gives about 12 hours of light.

Twelve hours is a few evenings, not a few weeks. If you light the lamp for four hours each evening, a full charge covers about three evenings. If it stays on through a long dinner, plan to charge it the next day.

How long does it take to recharge?

About 6 hours for a full charge, for both lamps. The simplest habit is to charge during the day, while the lamp is not needed, and light it in the evening.

Auren charges through a magnetic connector under its base, and a touch on the top switches it on or off. Silex charges at 5 V. Once charged, neither lamp has a cable to hide while it is in use.

Does the battery wear out over the years?

Every rechargeable battery ages. With time and with each charge, it holds a little less energy than when it was new, so the hours of light per charge slowly shorten. This is true of phones and laptops, and it is true of lamps.

We do not give a figure for the life of the battery, because it depends on use. A few general habits are kind to any battery:

  • Keep the lamp away from strong heat, such as a radiator or a sunny window sill.
  • Recharge it when the light runs low, rather than leaving it empty for weeks.
  • If you put the lamp away for a season, give it a charge from time to time.

The stone and the shade follow their own care. Dust the travertine of Silex with a soft, dry brush and avoid acidic cleaners. Dust the stone of Auren with a soft, dry cloth, and its fabric shade with a soft brush. Our care guide for stone, glass and fabric covers each material.

Is a rechargeable lamp the right choice for you?

A cordless lamp is useful where there is no outlet, or where the lamp moves: a dining table, a bookshelf, a covered table outdoors. It asks for one thing in return, a regular charge.

A plug-in lamp suits a fixed place that you light every evening, such as a nightstand. It never needs charging, but it stays within reach of the wall. We set the two side by side in cordless vs plug-in table lamps.

Our rechargeable table lamps are made for the places a cord cannot reach. Every other lamp in the collection plugs in.

Questions

How many hours of light does a rechargeable table lamp give?

It depends on the battery and the light source. Silex and Auren each pair a 4,000 mAh battery with a 3 W LED, which gives about 12 hours of light on a full charge. Lit for four hours an evening, that is about three evenings before the next charge.

Which Bellerives lamps are rechargeable?

Two: Silex and Auren. Silex has a light beige travertine base under a dark bronze dome. Auren has a natural beige stone base under a beige textured fabric drum. Every other lamp in the collection is corded and plugs into an outlet, meant for a fixed place in the room.

Is a rechargeable lamp bright enough to read by?

Not ours. Silex and Auren, like every Bellerives lamp, give ambient light. They set the mood of a room; they are not meant to light a desk or a page. Use them on a dining table, a shelf or a side table, and keep a reading light where you read.
